What was I thinking? Well, I know my Will pretty well after 19 years and although he keeps saying he’s in no rush to find a place to buy and settle down I’ve always felt that once we get within cooee of the approximate location, he thinks we will like, that will be it. We will buy a home, pack up the treasures from down south to tinker on and Kate’s roaming days will be over. So maybe sub-consciously, or not so sub-consciously, I grabbed opportunities to house sit in spots that are on my to check out list first, knowing we still have plenty of time to get to Will’s desired locations. Also, for the last 19 years I have wished that Will would walk with me once a day, convinced that if he did it he would grow to love it like I do – “Haa,” said the mischievous side of me, “if we have to walk two dogs a day, Will will have to join me.” Let me say in my own defence not once did I put in a bid for a house sit until Will had read the description and we’d discussed it – so really this should be called What were we thinking? LOL

I have wanted to visit the Northern Rivers Area of NSW since I drove Kyle to Queensland in 2017 and I am so glad I am right here in the middle of it. Wherever you turn you have spectacular views of a river, a beach, a mountain range, tropical plants, it is just spectacular. I have a beautiful water view from where I am sitting right now and I can see a gorgeous array of colours in the garden I’m looking at. “

The dogs are mostly very well behaved and follow commands, all of which have been written for us. The owners were very welcoming and thoughtful, providing pre-packaged meat meals for the dogs so that’s not something I have to think too much about. They left their car here so we can drive the dogs to the afternoon walk locations, gave us a meal voucher for a coffee shop right by the beach we can walk to and a bottle of wine/beer for each of us.

·        Will and I are walking together each day

·        Our fitness is improving

·        We sleep well at night because of the exercise (but I have an ear open like a Grandma does)

·        Some weight is moving off me, which was another reason I chose this sit

·        We get affection from the dogs whenever we want it

·        We continue to talk and problem solve together

·        We, me especially, continue to laugh at my/ourselves

·        We get out and see the area because it gives us a break from our big cuddly mates

Brunswick Heads - lunch spots, walking spots within 10 minute drive

One of the other houses on our water way, walk past it each morning
Some streets we walk were devastated by the floods, this house was safe by 2/3s of the yard was underwater

Late afternoon stroll where the boys can go lead free
